Optimum SmoothFlow pistons feature unique channels that prevent air entrapment while providing a smooth profile radius to reduce fluid shear.
Nordson pistons fit perfectly inside Optimum syringe barrels to ensure uniform dispensing force to provide accurate, consistent fluid deposits and prevent dripping and oozing between shots.
Precision wiping edges clean the syringe interior as fluid is filled into or dispensed from the barrel, eliminating waste, residue, and air entrapment.
Optimum syringe barrel pistons are manufactured in EFD’s own certified silicone-free facilities in the United States and are certified for industrial use.
Standard Pistons
Precision molded from high-density polyethylene* in six unique styles, Optimum pistons ensure precise control for virtually any fluid in any application, including:
■ White SmoothFlow (General Purpose) - For use with most fluids.
■ Red SmoothFlow (Tight Fit) - For use with mechanical dispensing equipment.
■ Beige SmoothFlow (Loose Fit) - Loose-fitting pistons are used with air-entrapped fluids.
■ Orange Flatwall - Flat-walled pistons have a looser fit to prevent “bouncing” when dispensing stringy, air-entrapped fluids.
■ Blue LV Barrier - LV Barrier pistons are used with cyanoacrylates and very low viscosity fluids.
■ Clear Flex - Flex pistons are flexible and reduce “bouncing” in viscous fluids while maintaining excellent wall-wiping. *Clear Flex pistons are molded from low-density polyethylene
Optimum Clear Flex Pistons
Entrapped air is the leading cause of piston bounce in pulse pressure dispensing. In piston bounce conditions, micro-bubbles and air pockets can surface between the piston and fluid. As this air builds, a lack of positive compression is created on the fluid, which can lead to inconsistent deposits.
The Nordson EFD Optimum Clear Flex Piston is designed to minimize piston bounce by preventing air from becoming entrapped. This material and design allow the inserted piston to flex under pressure, creating a tight seal between the piston and barrel. The seal stops air from passing by the piston, making the piston less likely to bounce during dispensing. As the fluid is dispensed, the Clear Flex Piston provides an excellent wall wipe, thereby reducing fluid waste.
Benefits
■ Increased piston surface contact area with fluid — the surface tension helps to keep the piston in contact with fluid, even with some air present
■ Increased flexibility of the trailing wiper to increase sealing capability of the piston from dispenser pulsing
■ Increased tolerance of the piston to withstand fluid filling variations and slight blow-by
■ Ideal for highly viscous or filled materials where piston bounce is a known issue
■ Excellent wall wiping through entire dispense cycle — minimizing material waste.
