Option 509 AM/FM Modulation Measurements:
Option 509 is an extensive AM/FM modulation quality measurement suite which adds support for national regulators and AM and FM transmitter owners. Broadcast and LMR channels need to perform regular measurements on transmitters to verify they are not over deviating or interfering with adjacent carriers in what has become a very crowded spectrum.
The advantage of this option is it supplies a comprehensive set of analog transmitter measurements in a field portable spectrum analyzer. With just a single screen, the RF spectrum, the audio frequency spectrum, the demodulated audio in oscilloscope format and numeric results for key parameters are all displayed. The results are updated simultaneously which provides the best possible real-time view of the AM or FM transmitter performance.
Integrated software calculates the essential audio quality measurements of AM depth and FM deviation. SINAD and THD are measured automatically when modulating the transmitter with a fixed frequency tone, typically 1 kHz. The built-in speaker can be used to listen to demodulated audio continuously and in real time even as traces are updated.
AM Measurements -
- AM Depth: 0% to 100%, ±2% accuracy, typical
- AM Bandwidth: 20 kHz
- AM Standards: Standard AM, Upper/Lower Sideband suppressed carrier
- Audio Results: Signal Power (dBm), Carrier Frequency, RMS Depth, (Peak-to-peak)/2 Depth, Peak Positive/Peak Negative Depth, SINAD (dB), Upper/Lower AM Depth, THD (dB)
FM Measurements -
- FM Bandwidth 96 kHz (wide)
- FM Deviation Up to 75 kHz with 2% accuracy, ±1 kHz typical
- Audio Results: Signal Power (Hz), Carrier Frequency, RMS FM deviation, (Peak-to-peak)/2 Deviation, SINAD, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) Peak Positive/Negative Deviation
